It’s almost Valentine’s Day and I can’t stop talking about it. Much less stop reading lovely blog posts about the outfits, hairstyles and brunches! 🙂 I had the amazing opportunity to travel to a little town an hour away and shoot this post with my boyfriend, Stefan. We had a blast creating this post for you! If you haven’t read my other Valentine’s Day post’s you can see the outfit here and gift guide here.
I’m sure you’ve read many outfit idea posts before but today I want to dive a little deeper. Instead of just showing you an outfit idea for February 14th, I’m going to walk you through how I put it together. So follow along with me as I walk you through step by step how to create an adorable Valentine’s Day Look. We’re going to talk hair, makeup and the outfit itself. Let’s begin!
Valentine’s Day is all about feminine, romantic looks. Think flowers and braids. The foundation to any of these romantic looks is a head full of beautiful loose curls.
My curling method:
1. Air dry hair half way then blow dry on low heat. All I do to blow dry is finger comb through my hair. Aka the lazy girls method.. Hehe 😀
2. Apply Argan oil to strands for a soft, touchable feel.
3. Wrap thick sections of hair around a curling wand. (Since we’re going for loose curls)
4. Spritz hair with a natural hairspray. After this I shake my hair out a bit to loosen the curls for a lived in look.
Once you have a nice head of curls, you can narrow down the hairstyle you’re going to wear. A couple of suggestions are accessorizing with pretty bobby pins, flower crowns, headbands and bows. My favorite braided hairstyles are crown braids and side braids. Any of these hairstyles would be the perfect complement to a feminine Valentine’s Day look. Choose your favorite! 🙂
When it comes to makeup I keep it pretty simple. I’m not a big beauty guru, to be honest. This Valentine’s Day I will be rocking the infamous winged eyeliner and red lip combo. Complementing my makeup I’m wearing my signature scent, “Modern Muse” by Estee Lauder. Other options might include pretty pink lipstick and blush shades. Nothing is more iconic and romantic feeling than a beautiful red or pink lip, a black eyeliner wing and light pink cheeks.
Now we get to my favorite part. Admittedly fashion is really what I care about most in the making of a look. It always has been and I spend the most time on it. Let me take you through the “Anatomy” of your classic fashion blogger Valentine’s Day look.
The Anatomy of a Fashion Blogger V-Day Look:
1. Decide your level of commitment to dressing up.
You have three options really; to wear a dress, skirt or pants. The first most obvious step is to chose how much you plan to dress up. This I’m sure depending on how you’re planning to spend your Valentine’s Day. In this post I’m sharing how I wore an outfit featuring ripped jeans. So my look will be leaning more towards casual.
2. Choose your statement piece of clothing.
Most bloggers always choose one festive piece to feature in their outfit. It may be a heart purse or a pair of red earrings. In this leg of the journey we need to decide what our festive, statement piece will be. It’s basically the article of clothing that people are drawn to first when they look at your outfit. In my outfit this will be my top.
3. Pick a pop of color.
This may be a purse, top, pair of shoes, the options are endless! Your pop of color could be any shade of pink or red. In my look the pop of color will be coming from my burgundy lace up ballet flats.
4. Chose wisely a pair of romantic shoes.
It can’t be a Valentine’s Day look without an adorable pair of shoes! Great options could be anything ranging from a pair of ballets flats, heels or maybe peep toe booties! I will be wearing a pair of burgundy, velvet lace up flats. I truly live in ballet flats. They’re comfortable and they make you look like you’re trying. (psh totally not though)
5. Top off that look with festive accessories!
I look at this as the step to really get the message across that you’re wearing a Valentine’s Day outfit. Pick out a pair of heart earrings or an arrow necklace or bracelet! Add heart hair accessories or maybe a purse in this shape. You can let your creativity shine in this department. Step five is really when you let your personal style show. In my outfit I wore a pair of silver heart earrings.
This concludes the process on how to create an adorable Valentine’s Day look! Hopefully this post added a unique perspective on how to create an outfit you’ll love. Let’s face it, sometimes creating a head to toe look for a holiday is a little stressful! Before you leave this post I’d like to ask that you’d share this post if you enjoyed it.
